Happy Friday the 13th.
Some people consider this day unlucky. Other people buy lottery tickets thinking that this day, above others, actually brings GOOD luck. There are many who believe that if you have 13 letters in your name that bad luck will follow you, and many hotels number their floors but omit the number 13.

If you are terrified of Friday the 13th (some people lock themselves in and refuse to drive!) then you would be known as
friggatriskaidekaphobic. Don't ask me how to pronounce that--I don't know!

I was researching why so many superstitions surround Friday the 13th; After all there are horror movies based around this day. The result of my research was inconclusive . There are many suggestions as to the origins of this significant day; too many to list here. So, see for yourself. Type 'Friday the 13th' into Google and see what you can come up with.

Enjoy your weekend.

Why hello there!
Welcome to May....we've been really lucky with the weather so far. Nothing but blue skies and sunshine. The Albany River looks so beautiful this time of year, and those sunsets are something else!

Well, we have about eight weeks left of school. It's quite unfortunate that we've experienced issues with the water at the school--but trust me, you would not have wanted to see that brown water! If everything goes as expected, we will be back in school bright and early tomorrow morning (Thursday). Three short weeks in a row!

Attendance is very important now. You should be at school on-time and everyday. There is not a lot of time left to catch up on the work you have missed or to show your teacher that you have gained the skills you need for your grade level. All assignments are important and will have a place on the grade you see on your report card. Always try your best.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Today was our first cultrual event day. It was very successful! Students had the opportunity to play Lacrosse, Bead, Make birchbark baskets and Dreamcatchers. All student work was very well done, and everyone seemed to enjoy him or herself. We are looking forward to another day of fun events and a community social in the evening.

See you all there!

Students have started coming to school on time. I'm very pleased to see that. Hopefully by next week we will see all students coming in at 9 am and 1pm sharp. A new incentive program for punctuality has started--students will get a ticket each time they are punctual in the morning and after lunch--these tickets will be worth 5 minutes each. At the end of the week those tickets can be cashed in for computer time! There may also be time through the week when you can cash in those tickets to use the computer......

Today students worked on completing assignments in Science, Math, Language Arts and History. Congratulations to the diligent workers who received FREE TIME as a reward for finishing their assignments early. Remember students, good attendance contributes to your success!

I am looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday morning.

Have a fantastic night!

Good Day!
Today started off with an assembly. It was a good way to get the day started. Students arrived a little late this morning--so I encourage you all to be here for 9 am so we can get started right after the assembly.

In Science we learned about salt water and fresh water and the three states that water can exist in. Then students had a choice of what activities they wanted to do based on what their interests were. After recess students worked on editing their recounts. We read an example of a recount as a model for the students. As progress reports are nearing, we need to make sure that we are completing all assignments so we can achieve our personal best.

After Native Language we continued to work on listing outcomes in probability--followed by a lesson on conflict and resolution.

There was a birthday in class today! I want to wish that person a very happy birthday, and hope that the year to come is full of many wonderful surprises.

Happy Monday!

Hello! What a beautiful day out there today. We are in the middle of the preview week for extra-curricular activities and I'm quite impressed with how many activity tickets I have given out so far--not only for attendance, but also for students who have demonstrated good social skills. Great work, everyone!

Today in the grade 7/8 classroom students continued to work on their recount. Several students are past the planning stages and are moving into drafting a copy of their recount. In Math, students completed a quiz in Probability and used hands on materials to explore Probability independently. We will be leading into Data Management which teaches us how to graph and chart outcomes.

While we had the computers in the classroom today we reserached different ways of presenting a science project, as the students will be working Science Fair Projects for a fair to be held at HCMS in May. Stay tuned for more on that.

Remember students, we only have a short while left together to help improve your skills and knowledge--it would be really great to see our full class attending regularly!

Wow! There is just over 50 school days left for this school year! Time sure does fly. Students worked really hard in class today. A recount is a personal essay about a memorable event that happened in the past. Students worked on choosing a topic and getting started putting those memories in order! Since we are working on a unit in Probability, we also reviewed listing outcomes during Math. Later in the day we had silent reading and learned about the importance of treaties in history. Looking forward to tomorrow!
